Central-Southern Arizona Beacon System

Located with the Radio Ridge Repeater Club’s repeaters on Mt Lemmon at over 9100′ ASL, just north of Tucson, Arizona, C-SABS is a collection of VHF/UHF/SHF amateur radio beacons to cover all of Arizona and most of the surrounding states and northern Mexico.
The system is currently under construction, with a target of spring 2026 to have the 144MHz, 220MHz, and 10GHz beacons operational. Each beacon will have a 5 to 10-watt output into horizontally polarized loops or slot antennas mounted on a small tower next to the container pictured above.
The beacons will be somewhat unique, providing not only a CW signal with ID and grid square, but also adding a Q65 (15C) digital signal ID with grid square. Digital signal decodes below human hearing will significantly extend their range to the Amateur community.

Planned bands,  frequencies, and current status as follows:

    •   2M – 144.275 MHz – Testing mode, sporadic operation

    •   1.25M – 222.065 MHz – Testing mode, sporadic operation

    •   70CM – 432.275 MHz – In construction, future testing

    •   33CM – 902.075 MHz – Future project

    •   23CM – 1296.075 – Future project

    •   13CM – 2304.375 – Future project

    •   3CM – 10368.400 – Testing mode, sporadic operation

Above is an example of the beacon modular construction by Chuck, NJ6D. It will be a clean, reliable, and maintainable installation. Check back often as we continue to build and install the system.
